The laboratory of hepato-gastroenterology is offering a 4 year-PhD fellowship to study the skeletal muscle to liver axis in driving metabolic dysfunction associated liver disease (MAFLD). We demonstrated profound structural and metabolic changes in the muscle compartment in preclinical models as well as in patients with MAFLD. The project aims at investigating how the altered muscle triggers immune modulations and how such immune changes are permissive for the progression of liver disease, including in animals subjected to a physical exercise program. It also implies the development of new methodologies for in vivo diagnosis of organ inflammation (in collaboration with industry). The research subject is currently a hot topic in diseases associated with obesity such as MAFLD/NASH and diabetes, but in many other chronic diseases as well.
