The new Collaborative Research Center 1601 (CRC 1601: https://sfb1601.astro.uni-koeln.de) is a joint venture of the I. Physics Institute (University of Cologne), the Regional Computing Centre Cologne, the Argelander Institute for Astronomy (University of Bonn), the Max  Planck  Institute  for  Radio  Astronomy  (Bonn)  and  the Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Our research on the “Habitats of Massive Stars across Cosmic Time” combines four methodological pillars: observational astronomy, instrumentation, laboratory astrophysics, and computational astrophysics. With the start of CRC 1601, we offer an

Postdoctoral position in Astrophysics (m/f/d)

at the University of Cologne within the work group of Prof. Dr. S. Walch-Gassner.

We provide a cutting-edge research environment, a unique international research collaboration, and state-of-the-art technologies. Teaching and teaching coordination (e.g. organization of tutorials and exams) is an integral part of this position.

Within CRC 1601 you will profit from an international environment and the large research network established between the participating institutions and beyond. Payment is based on work contracts (including health and social benefits) according to the German TVL-E13 scale if the necessary qualifications are met (see below). The position is available from July 1, 2024 on a full -time basis (39,83 hours per week). It is limited until 30.06.2027.

Your profile:

  • You have a degree (PhD or equivalent) in physics/ astrophysics / astronomy / computer science or comparable.
  • You enjoy teaching courses in physics and astronomy and ideally you have experience in doing so.
  • You are fluent in German and in English (written and spoken).
  • You can think analytically and work independently, systematically and constructively.
  • You have experience in writing research papers and scientific grant proposals.
  • You are highly motivated to work in a vibrant, multicultural collaboration.
