The unique competitive edge of the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering  in the School of Chemical Engineering is based on sustainable utilization of raw materials, designing more efficient processes and developing new materials and products. Our department’s areas of expertise enable sustainable future with high performance products and processes in circular economy and bioeconomy. The department is in a key position in research of chemical engineering, materials technology, metals processing, efficient energy technologies and digitalization of these. Our core competences include unit operations and processes in chemical engineering, hydro- and pyro-metallurgy, catalyst and polymeric materials, novel catalytic process, process control and process systems engineering.

The Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering invites applications for the position of

PROFESSOR IN CIRCULAR AND SUSTAINABLE CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

The position can be filled at any level of the Aalto tenure track system (assistant, associate or full professor).

The position and our expectations   

We are looking for a dedicated professional with ambition for ground-breaking academic work in the field of Circular and Sustainable Chemical Engineering. We expect you to have strong expertise in Chemical Engineering unit operations and processes for Sustainable and Circular production processes. The field can include chemical, metallurgical, polymer and bio-based industries.

The position will be in core to influence the disruption to sustainability and circularity, thus we appreciate the professor to:

  • Teach at all the levels
  • Produce high-quality research that can be published in peer-reviewed journals
  • Integrate new interdisciplinary concepts from research output into educational activities, programs and curricula
  • Initiate research projects on circular economy, such as: utilization of raw materials, material development, recycling of energy and materials, digitalization, analysis and design of novel processes, carbon capture and storage as well as life cycle and sustainability assessment
  • Contribute in energy transition including hydrogen technologies and Power-to-X.
  • Employ modern digital interfaces in research and education, system-level approach in design, life cycle and sustainability assessment, materials and energy integration
  • Disseminate research results and contribute to the progress of the school and department, its international visibility and interaction with the society.

A doctoral degree in chemical engineering or in a related field is a prerequisite for the position. The applicants will be reviewed based on their excellence and future potential in scientific research and teaching, and their active role within the international science community.
