Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) invites applications for the position of senior university lecturer or university lecturer in business administration with a focus on leadership, skills development and research methodology, starting 1.8.2025 or as agreed at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics, and Law in Åbo.
For this position, excellent proficiency in Swedish is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are primarily looking for a senior university lecturer in business administration. The focus of the position is on leadership, skills development and research methodology.
The composition of the work tasks will depend on the eligibility:
The duties of a senior university lecturer include teaching and supervision as well as examining theses at all levels of study. In addition to these tasks, senior university lecturers also conduct independent scientific research. Senior university lecturers participate in continuing efforts to develop and evaluate the relevant field of education. Two thirds of the working hours are used for teaching, supervision and other tasks, and one third of the working hours for one’s own research.
University lecturers supervise and examine theses at all levels of education. University lecturers can conduct research for a maximum of one third of their working hours.
The employee has a total working time of 1,612 hours per year. The work tasks included in the position will be confirmed in annual work plans. A trial period is applied in new employments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSESSMENT
A senior university lecturer is required to hold a doctoral degree and research merits that correspond to the scientific merits of a ‘Docent’ as well as teaching skills.
A university lecturer is required to hold a doctoral degree and to possess teaching skills.
The following criteria, presented below in order of priority, will be taken into consideration when evaluating and comparing the applicants to the position:
- Scientific competence (50%), which includes research merits such as scientific publications in the field.
- Pedagogical competence (30%), especially experience of teaching and supervision at university level and experience in planning and development, digital pedagogy, higher education pedagogy or equivalent.
- Interactive skills (20%), especially good collaboration skills and administrative skills.
The position will be filled on the basis of an overall assessment of the applicant's capabilities to carry out the work tasks included in the position.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
The language of tuition and examinations at Åbo Akademi University is Swedish. For teaching positions, excellent proficiency in spoken and written Swedish as well as the ability to understand Finnish are required. Foreigners or non-native Finnish citizens are required to have sufficient Swedish skills to accomplish the duties successfully. SALARY
The salary of a senior university lecturer is set to requirement levels 6-7 in the collective agreement for teaching and researching personnel in universities. The salary of a university lecturer is set to requirement levels 5-6.
