Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) invites applications for the position of university lecturer or university teacher in Accounting starting 18.8.2025 at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Business and Economics, and Law in Åbo. For this position, excellent proficiency in Swedish is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The work tasks of a university lecturer/university teacher include teaching and supervision at courses on bachelor’s and master’s level of studies. The person to be employed will have educational responsibility that includes teaching in class as well as remotely via web applications. The University Lecturer/University Teacher is expected to contribute with research from hers/his own field of expertise. The work tasks also include administrative duties and planning.
The composition of the work tasks will depend on the eligibility:
The tasks of a university lecturer comprise teaching and research. University lecturers supervise and examine theses at all levels of education. University lecturers may be provided with an opportunity to conduct research for a maximum of one third of their working hours.
The tasks of a university teacher comprise teaching and supervision at the undergraduate level. The university teacher may be provided with an opportunity to conduct research to a limited extent.
The employee has a total working time of 1,612 hours per year. The work tasks included in the position will be confirmed in annual work plans.
A trial period is applied in new employments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSESSMENT
A university lecturer is required to hold a doctoral degree in accounting or a closely related discipline and to possess teaching skills.
A university teacher is required to hold a master’s degree in accounting or a closely related discipline and to possess teaching skills.
A doctoral degree in accounting or a closely related discipline is meritorious. For applicants with a master’s degree, ongoing doctoral studies are meritorious.
The following criteria, presented below in order of priority, will be taken into consideration when evaluating and comparing the applicants to the position:
Pedagogical competence (50%). When assessing the teaching skills of the applicant, the basic pedagogical approach, pedagogical education, teaching and supervision experience relevant to the task in question, course assessments, assessment of one’s teaching, and participation in assessment and pedagogical development shall be taken into consideration.
Scientific competence (30%), which covers merits in research, such as scientific publications in the field and ongoing doctoral studies.
Collaboration (20%), including good co-operation skills and experience of administrative activities and practical familiarity or professional skills within the field.
The position will be filled on the basis of an overall assessment of the applicant's capabilities to carry out the work tasks included in the position.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
The language of tuition and examinations at Åbo Akademi University is Swedish. For teaching positions, excellent proficiency in spoken and written Swedish as well as the ability to understand Finnish are required. Foreigners or non-native Finnish citizens are required to have sufficient Swedish skills to accomplish the duties successfully. The language proficiency requirements for teaching positions at Åbo Akademi University are fully described in Section 78 of the Universities Act (558/2009) as well as in Sections 1 and 2 of the Instruktion om de kunskaper i svenska och finska som krävs av lärare vid Åbo Akademi (25 February 2010) (only in Swedish).

SALARY
The salary of a university lecturer is set to requirement levels 5-6 in the collective agreement for teaching and researching personnel in universities. The salary of a university teacher is set to requirement level 5.
