The Public Policy Group and the Immigration Policy Lab at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences, invite applications for up to two Postdoctoral positions in quantitative migration research.
Our research group applies causal research designs and machine learning to large-scale registry and survey data to produce quantitative evidence to solve pressing policy challenges. We employ field and natural experimental methods to quantify the impact of immigration and integration policies, understand migration decisions and the economic and political repercussions of immigration. To expand our data-driven research portfolio, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher that will contribute to the collaborative research projects of the group and pursue her/his own research agenda in the field of migration.
The principal job of the postdoc will be to design, implement and conduct rigorous quantitative analyses using advanced methods of causal inference and statistics. She or he will be involved in all aspects of the research, but with a particular emphasis on study design, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts for leading peer-reviewed journals. The postdoc will have the opportunity to co-author papers that report on the results of the studies, work with an array of affiliated faculty from the Zurich and Stanford branches of the Immigration Policy Lab, and develop independent projects related to questions of migration and integration. In addition, the postdoc is expected to contribute a few hours per week to the group’s teaching and administrative duties. The initial appointment will be for two years beginning between August and September 2020, with an expected renewal for one more year contingent on satisfactory performance. The salary will be paid according to ETH standards.
The ideal candidate will have, at the time of appointment, completed a PhD in a social science program, with a preference for Economics, Political Science, or Sociology. She or he is expected to have strong methodological skills and a keen interest in and knowledge of migration and integration related questions. All work-related interactions are in English and excellent English writing skills are essential.
We look forward to receiving your online application, including a cover letter, CV, graduate school transcripts, and a writing sample. At least two (confidential) letters of recommendation should be sent directly to email@example.com (Subject: Letter of Recommendation). Only applications submitted through our online application portal are accepted. Applicants should be prepared to complete a research design and data analysis exercise as part of the interview process. Applications review will begin on January 13th 2020 and continue until the positions are filled.
