Description of the research activity:
This research area focuses on developing indicator models that measure the contribution of regional tourism activities to socio-economic sustainable development. Based on regional input-output models, multiplier models are generated to show income and employment effects for specific tourism professions. This approach allows for an assessment of professional development in tourism and the distribution efficiency of regional tourism. In particular, the contribution of tourism to the local circular economy is analyzed. Beyond output, employment, and tax effects, as well as leakages and financial outflows from the region, tourism’s impact is evaluated based on its degree of interconnection with other sectors (e.g., agriculture, local food production, creative, art, and cultural industries). Through network analysis methods, highly interconnected groups of regional tourism stakeholders are identified, with a focus on social-communicative networks that foster creativity, idea generation, and innovation.
