YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on biomedical molecular research at a high level on a research topic in one of the research groups of the Department of Biomedical Molecular Biology.   • You will provide support to the high-tech expertise of the department
  • You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level, in particular you coordinate and you supervise practical courses, work colleges and master projects in the Bachelor/Master in Biochemistry and Biotechnology and/or the Master of Biomedical Sciences
  • You will counsel Bachelor and/or Master students in their bachelor project, master project or Master’s dissertation
  • You will counsel doctoral students
  • You will contribute to informing the public on issues related to biotechnology in general and biomedical molecular research in particular

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree (Doctor of Science: Biochemistry and Biotechnology or Doctor of Science: Biochemistry or Doctor of Science: Biology or Doctor of Applied Biological Sciences: Cell and Gene Biotechnology or Doctor of Health Sciences or Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a subject considered relevant by the selection committee)
  • The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
  • You have already conducted research within the field of biomedical molecular biology
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher during your doctorate and, if applicable, during your postdoctoral studies
  • You have practical experience and theoretical knowledge of molecular (cell) biological techniques
  • You have good communicative and didactical skills
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated
  • You have an excellent knowledge of Dutch and English

Will serve as an advantage:

  • Contributions to scientific meetings or conferences
  • Experience with scientific supervision of Bachelor’s and/or Master’s students
  • Experience with supervision of lab technicians
  • Experience with supervision of work colleges and practical courses at university level

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term and depending on departmental policy
  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
  • The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term
  • Your appointment will start on 1 July 2024 at the earliest

List in a separate paragraph your 5 most important scientific achievements (e.g. publications, patents, etc). Submit as a single pdf file
  • In the field ‘Cover letter’: your application letter in Dutch in pdf format. Please mention your scientific interests and how these could integrate into the general research lines of the department
  • In the field ‘Diploma’: a transcript of the required degree (if already in your possession). If you have a foreign diploma in a language other than our national languages (Dutch, French or German) or English, please add a translation in one of the mentioned languages
  • In the field ‘Certificate of equivalence’: only for diplomas awarded outside the European Union a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted (if already in your possession, if not, you need to be able to provide proof that you have applied for a certificate of equivalence at the start of your appointment). The certificate can be requested via www.naricvlaanderen.be/en
