Master in physics, electronics and/or electrical engineering with an interest in a variety of technologies using your scientific background to find relevant patents.

Working in imec’s patent group is an excellent opportunity for a Patent Information Officer who wants to be part of a growing and IP-conscious global leading research organization, enabling further professional growth.

To direct our research activities and to optimally protect the obtained innovations, the patent information officer must assess what is publicly known in the areas of technical interest. The patent information officer will support the patent portfolio manager by searching for this public information using specialized web-based patent databases. These search requests include, in first instance, patentability searches and patent landscape searches.

What you will do

  • You define the scope of the search request together with the patent portfolio manager.
  • Then, you develop and apply your search strategy to retrieve the most relevant patent information.
  • Finally, you report the outcome of the search in a concise manner to the patent portfolio manager.
  • You docket the outcome of the search in our IP management software.
  • When the search is outsourced, you instruct and communicate with these external search providers.
  • To keep your expertise up to date, you follow the latest developments in patent search tools and strategies.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. In everything we do, your future colleagues are guided by the imec values of passion, excellence, connectedness and integrity. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process, not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You want to use your physics, optical, electronics and/or electrical engineering background (MSc degree).
  • You have a broad interest in technology.
  • You combine this with good analytical skills.
  • You work accurately and in a structured way.
  • You are motivated to achieve the best results.
  • You are an enthusiastic team player but can work independently and take initiative.
