The LUT School of Engineering Science is looking for a project researcher who has good expertise in biopolymer chemistry. The position is located at the department of Separation Science at the Lahti campus.

The position is focused on the synthesis of novel biobased polymers and valorization of lignocellulosic biopolymers for various a demanding application. The project researcher will mainly work on the surface functionalization of lignocellulosic biopolymers and synthesis of novel biobased polymers from biobased resources for functional packaging film, structural composites, and biomedical scaffolds etc. The biomedical applications will be performed with the collaboration of Indian Institute of Technology, BHU. 

We are looking for a candidate who has a university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in organic chemistry or chemical engineering or polymer chemistry and some experience in synthetic polymer chemistry or biopolymer chemistry. Experience in surface modification of polysaccharide /synthesis of lignocellulosic biopolymers-based bio polyurethane; knowledge/skill in tissue engineering/drug delivery will be a big advantage for this position. Fluent English is needed in the position and knowing the Finnish language be an advantage. 

The position is available for 3 years (fixed term) with a trial period of six months. The annual salary range of project researchers is approximately 29 000-38 700 euros (gross income including holiday bonus) depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The work will start as soon as possible.
