Work tasks

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is recruiting an early career research scientist to join our genomics and breeding research group which is one of the world leaders in developing computational solutions for large genetic evaluations. The person will work with genomic evaluation projects in animal genetics. The main focus is development of genomic breeding value prediction models for dairy cattle with linear and non-linear models. Additionally, publication of research results in peer reviewed journals and participation in grant applications will be important. The person is expected to work as a team member together with other researchers in computational genetics and to cooperate closely with animal breeding industry nationally and internationally.
This position is an excellent opportunity to develop into a recognized specialist in the field of breeding value prediction.

The successful applicant must have a doctoral degree or be in the finishing stage of a PhD program, in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a similar field. Proven experience in applying genetic and/or genomic methods for breeding value prediction of large data are required. Good skills in quantitative genetics and statistical modelling are desired. Good knowledge on mathematical statistics and experience with programming (in Fortran, C or similar) are an advantage.
The selected person is required to have a proven track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Successful acquisition of competitive research funding is considered as an advantage. The successful applicant should possess good co-operational and communication skills. Excellent skills in oral and written English are required.

 The position is at complexity level 8 in Luke's salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 3 245.69 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50% of the position-specific salary component. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
