About the workplace

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research organisation working to promote bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources. Work tasks

We are looking for a trainee for projects in which we develop remote sensing methods for peatland restoration monitoring. Tasks include processing and analyzing of remote sensing and GIS data, such as satellite and drone imagery, field work, for example water table depth measurements, and possibly also other assisting work. The tasks can be tailored based on your skills and interests.
The work is located in Oulu and in the rural studies, land use and natural resources governance group. You will be working in an active and interdisciplinary research group and supervised by experienced peatland restoration and remote sensing experts. The work is conducted in close collaboration with Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland.

Qualifications

We wish that you have a strong background in GIS and remote sensing, excellent computer and software skills (e.g., R, ArcGIS), knowledge about peatland ecology and hydrology, readiness to conduct field work as well as fluent written and spoken English. If you commit to what you do, get things done quickly and are proactive and co-operative, you might be the trainee we are looking for. You are preferably at final stages of your masters studies. Your study background can be for example in physical geography, environmental science, environmental technology, forestry, or ecology.

Salary

 The salary is determined in accordance with Lukes 2022 trainee salary recommendation:
• Trainee, studying for the vocational upper secondary degree 870 - 1,270 eur / month
• Trainee, studying for the bachelors degree (University of Applied Sciences) 1,170 - 1,570 eur / month
• Trainee, studying for the masters degree (University) 1,470 - 2,070 eur / month
