Laboratory of Chemistry and Bioengineering is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with the main focus on biological metal recovery for a fixed period of two years. The position is suitable for academics with previous experience on biological processes for metal recovery and/or metal analytics with the motivation and a proven ability to engage in high quality research leading to publications in internationally recognized journals.
The postdoctoral researcher will work in Bio and Circular Economy Research Group, which focuses on synthetic biology, environmental technology, bioenergy and biorefining with the ultimate goal to promote a cleaner and safer future for the benefit of people and the environment. The group covers research from molecular biology level up biorefinery and power plants and to urban and industrial systems. The group has also active collaboration with industry and several national and international research organizations. Research interests on biological metal recovery include e.g. heap, tank and in situ bioleaching of low-grade ores and waste materials, resource recovery from mining process and waste waters, metal recovery in bioelectrochemical systems and modern molecular methods for studying microbial communities.
The primary role of the postdoctoral researcher is to engage in research in the field of biohydrometallurgy focusing on biological processes for metal recovery from low-grade ores and from solid and liquid industrial and municipal waste and side streams. In addition, we provide possibility to participate in research related to our other ongoing research projects in collaboration with other members of the Bio and Circular Economy Research Group as well as national and international collaborators. It is expected that research to be carried out by the postdoctoral researcher results in peer-reviewed articles published in relevant academic journals. While the advertised position is primarily research-based, the postdoctoral researcher has also possibility to participate in the development of new research initiatives and teaching provided by the laboratory as well as other general activities of the laboratory.
The applicant should have a doctoral degree in environmental technology, biotechnology, microbiology, metal and mineral processing or a related field , and have experience on research work related to biological metal recovery and/or metal analytics. The applicant should be fluent in both written and verbal English.

The salary will be based on both the demands of the advertised position and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff the position of a postdoctoral researcher is placed on demand levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance-based salary.
Typical monthly starting salary is 3326,61€-4079,08€.
Trial period of 4 months applies.
The position is filled for a fixed-term period of two years. The appointment is expected to begin in May 2018.
