We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in sustainable security practices. This position is opened to enhance interdisciplinary security research at Tampere university, particularly in the university’s new research area of sustainable security practices (SUPRA). The position will formally be situated in the newly established Tampere Centre for Security, Risk and Resilience (TASERR) led by Prof. Juha Vuori (Politics Unit/Faculty of Management and Business, MAB). However, the person selected will work on a 50-50 basis at TASERR in the Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) and the Tampere Peace Research Institute (TAPRI) at the Faculty of Social Sciences (SOC), which is led by Research Director Marko Lehti.
Job description
Tampere university seeks to develop research on sustainable security practices (SUPRA) that can comprise activities by public and private bodies as well as communities and individuals extending from local level resilience to risk management, security governance among authorities and on to multilateralism on the global level. SUPRA promotes work at the interfaces of such activities to reinforce interdisciplinary security research at the university.
SUPRA is one of the four research areas the university has committed itself to develop, on grounds of profiling funding received from the Academy of Finland in 2023. SUPRA seeks to integrate and develop relevant work conducted at TASERR and TAPRI alongside other pertinent research at the university. Besides the directors of TASERR and TAPRI, the postdoc’s work is supported by the lead PI of SUPRA, Prof. Pami Aalto (Politics unit/MAB faculty), as well as SUPRA board members Prof. Jouni Häkli (Administrative studies unit/MAB faculty), Prof. Tarmo Lipping (University consortium of Pori) and Senior Researcher Elise Feron (TAPRI/SOC faculty).

An eligible candidate is expected to hold a doctoral degree from a relevant field and show a promising record of high-level international publication activity, or strong indications thereof, organizational and networking skills enabling innovative planning, coordination and dissemination, as well as more practical organisation, and display genuine interdisciplinary interests and be ready for taking independent initiative.
We offer
The postdoctoral research fellow will be hired for a fixed term until 31.12.2025. The start date can be from 1.5.2023 onwards, preferably as soon as possible, but can also be mutually agreed between the parties. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees. The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. The position of a postdoctoral research fellow is placed at job demand level 5-6 (the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff). In addition, employee will receive performance-based salary. Typically, the starting salary for postdoctoral research fellow is approximately 3500 euros per month.
