The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Sciences is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of computer science, data science and artificial intelligence

Position

• You will actively work on the preparation and defense of a doctoral dissertation on the development of new data science and artificial intelligence algorithms. These have applications in bioinformatics (for example, to rapidly interpret DNA sequencing data from blood samples with infectious diseases) or in other domains relevant to the research group.
• You will organize your doctoral research and regularly report on progress.
• You will follow the doctoral training program at the Antwerp Doctoral School to support your doctoral trajectory.
• You will present the findings of your doctoral research at scientific conferences and publish scientific articles related to the research project.
• You will contribute to attracting (inter)national research funding.
• You will take on a limited package of teaching and research-supporting tasks for the department, within the Computer Science programs, and the Adrem Data Lab research group.

Profile

• You hold a Master degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or you will obtain the degree by the time of appointment.
• You can demonstrate excellent study results.
• Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
• Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
• You are motivated to actively take charge of your further professional development.
• Your work is quality-oriented, with integrity, creativity, and a collaborative approach.

What we offer

• We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years. Following a positive evaluation, the scholarship can be renewed once for another two-year period.
• The intended start date is September 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
• Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
• You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
• You will do most of your work at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
