Post-doctoral Researcher, Software Engineering

for a fixed-term period of 1 March 2022 (or soon after that) – 28 February 2026

Tasks and qualifications

Do you want to grow into a senior specialist in software engineering research and education at the Faculty of IT in the University of Jyväskylä? It is possible in this position. Post-doctoral researcher does research in software technology part of the Faculty’s research groups. The work is research-oriented but it will include some teaching and thesis supervision in software and communications engineering and in information technology. The recruited person is also expected to take responsibility for participating in research projects, gaining external funding for the projects, and other duties as agreed with the supervising professors. In this position you have the possibility to grow and develop on a university career to the next level, and, in addition to research merits, strengthen your pedagogical competence. The position is suitable for a newly graduated PhD as well as for a person who has already created an established research career. The starting date can be negotiated – if you are finishing your PhD during this spring 2022, you are welcome to apply for this position.

Post-doctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree in the applicable research area. Previous experience and evidence of research related to the position's content are considered an advantage for the applicant. We value an ability to collaborate, high-level publishing, active participation in procuring research funding, and interest in teaching and supervision of master theses and the research work.

The duties, qualification requirements, and language skills of a Post-doctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. In this position, the Post-doctoral Researcher is expected to have excellent skills in the English language. Considering the future positions and teaching, however, Finnish language is a necessary skill to learn during the employment. The University will support these studies.

Salary

The Post-doctoral Researcher's duty-specific part of the salary is determined by the job demand level 5-6 of teaching and research personnel in the general university salary system. Your salary is around 3,300 – 4,400€ a month depending on your qualifications and previous experience.

A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of the employment.

The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä is the first and largest in its field in Finland. The Mission of the Faculty is to create science-based digital future. In research, education and stakeholder collaboration, the Faculty comprehensively combines the viewpoints of technology, information, organizations, business, and people. Strong collaboration with businesses and other parts of the society is based on sustained research. The research in the Faculty is organized in four divisions, which are Computational Science, Software and Communications Engineering, Information Systems, and Learning and Cognitive Sciences. The Faculty includes traditional education programs in the fields of natural science and economic science. In August 2021 a new program in the field of technology was launched.
