This is an exciting opportunity for a Power Electronics Engineer to join our collaboration between the University of Nottingham and Sprint Electric Limited (SEL). Based at SEL’s office within the University of Nottingham’s Power Electronics and Machines Centre, you will have the unique opportunity to take a central role in the delivery of a project to develop a high reliability AC motor drive.
Sprint Electric design and manufacture DC motor controllers for a wide variety of machine applications, including the manufacture of steel, plastics and paper. They also manufacture a range of AC Drives to control AC slip ring motors that are widely used in crane and lift applications.
As an enthusiastic and ambitious individual, this high-profile Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project will give you an opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic and high-performing manufacturer of digital motor control solutions. A key aspect of your role will be to transfer research in industrial motor drives and embed new methodologies and practices within the business. You will work with a variety of stakeholders to ensure that the methodologies implemented are aligned with the needs of SEL’s customers. Therefore, an awareness of commercial drivers and previous industrial experience is desirable, but not essential.
You should have a degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or closely related discipline and preferably hold a relevant postgraduate degree.
You will be employed by the University of Nottingham, but will be based at SEL’s office. The project will involve visits to customers and to SEL’s Headquarters in West Sussex, so you should be willing to travel. This is a full time, fixed term 24-month contract funded through a KTP award, a UK Government scheme, enabling graduates (KTP Associates) to work on exciting and challenging projects in a partnership between a business and university. It is an opportunity to fast track your career by managing a strategic project that has potential to transform the business. It’s essential you understand how KTP works and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure this position. Hours of work are full-time (37.5 hours).
