We are looking for a highly motivated Doctoral Researcher or Postdoctoral Researcher to join a project that explores the pathogenic mechanisms of familial dilated cardiomyopathy. The project is led by Professor Pekka Taimen at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Turku. The position is fixed-term for one year, starting on 1 January 2025 (or as agreed, 1 March 2025 at the latest), but it is possible that it will be extended.

Taimen lab is working in the field of translational pathology. In the proposed project, we aim to identify the pathogenic mechanisms of familial dilated cardiomyopathy caused by mutations in the LMNA gene. We employ transgenic mouse models and cell culture systems, along with imaging, RNA sequencing, biochemistry, histology, and immunohistochemistry techniques. The research project benefits from several core facilities provided by the Institute of Biomedicine, as well as state-of-the-art technologies offered by Turku Bioscience.


Who we are looking for

The position requires a suitable degree (Master’s degree or PhD degree) in Biomedicine, or related fields, and experience in biomedical research and working in a research group. Previous experience with mouse models, cell culture work, imaging, RNA sequencing data analysis, and histology is considered an advantage. The applicant is expected to demonstrate commitment to long-term research work, strong written and spoken English skills, as well as the ability to collaborate and organise effectively in the planning of various research stages.

In case the selected candidate for the position of a Doctoral Researcher does not yet have the right to study for a doctoral degree at the University of Turku, the title of Project Researcher will be used at first, and the study right for a doctoral degree should be applied in the next suitable call. Salary and trial period

The salaries are determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a postdoctoral researcher the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 3500–4000 euros/month, and for a doctoral researcher/project researcher around 2440–2600 euros/month, depending on previous experience and skills. Salary is negotiated when the employment contract is prepared and it is influenced by previous experience and skills. The position has a six (6) month trial period.
