Process Development Engineer, Cellulose-based products

We are now looking for a Process Development Engineer to join our Cellulose-based product solutions -team.
 

Your key goal is to contribute to the research projects related to the development of new industrial process technologies needed for new fiber based products. In this position, you will have a major role in upscaling research for our customers. Your research activities include pilot and laboratory scale research and pre-tests.

Our team, Cellulose-based product solutions, works on innovating and developing novel applications for cellulose-based materials. Upscaling concepts, using design approach, and supporting commercialisation efforts form a substantial part of our work. Based on scientific research, we develop new cellulose-based applications that fulfil the customer’s needs, as well as help them in transition to circular economy with bio-based materials.

As a Process Development Engineer you will: 

  • draw detailed research plans together with our industry customers and other VTT experts, and carry out research work accordingly,
  • lead pilot trials on-site at VTT’s pilot lines in Jyväskylä
  • use your fluent skills in English to write research reports and publications that help the team communicate its results clearly
  • help to maintain and upgrade research infrastructure needed for carrying out world class research work
  • participate in brainstorming future solutions for continuous processes needed to produce new and improved existing fiber based products
     

Who we are looking for:

  • We expect you to have at least MSc (Tech.) level degree
  • You have product and process development experience in the field of paper, board, tissue, and/or nanocellulose technology
  • It is a clear additional benefit if you have relevant work experience from industrial processes working e.g., as a process development engineer
  • You are familiar with barrier materials and technologies in the packaging sector
  • We favour candidates who have practical experience in working and developing pilot or industrial scale machinery, continuous processes, automation, and on-line measurement devices, and fiber based product properties.
