A new opportunity to join our team as a Bioinformatics Education Developer to lead development of boinformatics courses as part of the Learning and Training programme has arisen. This is a fixed term contract up to end of September 2026.

About the Role:

As a key member of the Wellcome Connecting Science Learning and Training (L&T) team, the Bioinformatics Education Developer will work with internal and external collaborators to design and deliver comprehensive educational content and training in bioinformatics. Having a strong foundation in bioinformatics, and a passion for education and training, the Bioinformatics Education Developer will collaborate with subject matter experts, educators, and stakeholders to create engaging and effective learning experiences for researchers and professionals in the field of bioinformatics.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the end-to-end process in the planning, design, development and evaluation of bioinformatics education and training. This includes working with subject matter experts, including course instructors, to tailor course outcomes, and identify, prepare and test informatic requirements and resources. This also involves implementing improvements in the content, delivery, and overall effectiveness of education and training events based on feedback.
  • Guiding the selection and implementation of diverse training delivery formats and strategies to ensure the most appropriate educational methods are used to meet specific requirements.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality training events, promptly addressing and troubleshooting any issues that may arise. Ensure the deployment of robust learning environments that promote knowledge sharing and networking among learners and contributing to developing the L&T Communities of Practice.
  • Resource development: Create and maintain educational resources, using appropriate platforms and evaluate their impact.
  • Continuously monitor and stay informed about the latest advancements in bioinformatics tools, databases, and software, ensuring their appropriate integration into educational content to maintain relevance and accuracy.
  • Engage with the bioinformatics community, including industry partners, academic institutions, and professional organisations, through conferences, workshops and webinars, to learn from and promote educational initiatives and the programme
  • Carrying out any other relevant duties as may reasonably be associated with the post, and which may be required from time to time. This includes the maintenance, optimising, updating, and troubleshooting of the L&T educational digital repositories and databases.

Essential Skills:

Education:

  • Postgraduate degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field

Experience:

  • Proven experience in educational content development and instruction in bioinformatics or a related field
  • Experience with bioinformatics databases, tools and resources (e.g., VMs and cloud based platforms), programming languages (e.g., Python, R), and data analysis techniques

Skills:

  • Educational and instructional design skills - Ability to create educational content and designing instructional materials that facilitate learning
  • Active participation in the bioinformatics community and knowledge of current trends and advancements in the field
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills

  • Exhibit/demonstrates a passion for education and developing and delivering genomics and bioinformatics training to build capacity within the field.

  • Pays close attention to detail, ensuring high accuracy in all work outputs.
  • Demonstrates experience in working independently, managing time and responsibilities effectively without direct supervision.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Other Information:

  • Fixed Term Contract (end of September 2026)
  • Salary in the region of: £41,000 to £49,000
