The Division of Fluid Dynamics
We conduct research on turbulent, incompressible and compressible single and multiphase flows using both numerical and experimental methods. Our work focuses on developing advanced techniques for studying flows in both fundamental and real-world applications, often in close collaboration with industry through national and international projects. A division strenght lies in applied aerospace. We are also actively involved in teaching within our international Master’s programmes in Applied Mechanics and Mobility Engineering.
Fluid Dynamics | Chalmers
The project explores how future aircraft can reduce aviation climate impact through advanced design methods. The doctoral student will develop and apply multidisciplinary optimization methods combining aircraft performance, aerodynamics, structrual analysis and atmospheric modelling to study low-emission and low-contrail aircraft concepts concentrating on hydrogen-powered configurations. The work will be carried out in collaboration with international partners and use state-of-the-art design tools.
To qualify as a Doctoral student, you must have a Master’s degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master’s degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits* in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering physics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Experience in at least one of the following areas: aircraft design, aerodynamics, propulsion, CFD, multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO), numerical modelling is mandatory. The candidate should be motivated to work in an international research environment and collaborate across disciplines. For students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.
