Applicants should demonstrate excellent research achievements either in a subject in the humanities with a focus on information science and computational literary studies or in information science and digital humanities with a strong emphasis on the humanities perspective. Pertinent publications in internationally visible media are expected. A focus in the area of digital editions as well as skills in research data management, current methods in optical character recognition and AI are desirable. The position also entails tasks relating to research-based teaching (2 hours per week) within the competences of the professorship and the MA specialization “Digital Humanities” at the Faculty of Humanities.

The position is located at an office at the management of the DLA and develops the field of exploring and analyzing analogue archive collections with the help of machine learning methods and AI. The conceptualization and acquisition of third-party funding are explicitly desired.

Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree as well as postdoctoral qualifications in the areas mentioned above and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship (proven e.g., through course evaluations).

The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. Female academics, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.

General information on professorships, hiring processes, and the German academic system may be found here: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/213700

Applications should be submitted along with the required documents (CV and outline of academic career, certificates and diplomas, list of publications, list of teaching experience, teaching evaluations, plan for research and teaching) as well as a selection of relevant publications (up to two self-authored monographs and up to five articles) exclusively via the appointment portal of the University of Tübingen (at https://berufungen.uni-tuebingen.de) by September 16, 2026. Questions regarding the call for applications and the appointment portal can be directed to the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen, Prof. Dr. Angelika Zirker ([email protected]) and to the Director of the DLA Marbach, Prof. Dr. Sandra Richter ([email protected]).
