Our unit focuses on understanding how changes in adipocyte function and origin are related to cardiometabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis. Our group consists of 15-20 members, and we have all the necessary infrastructure to conduct advanced translational research, including a fully equipped preclinical laboratory and a clinical research unit.
Our unit conducts a range of clinical studies aimed at understanding the link between adipose tissue and cardiometabolic diseases, as well as responses to various types of interventions. An important part of our research involves analyzing clinical materials, such as blood samples and adipose tissue biopsies. As a technician in our unit, you will play a key role in these projects, with your primary responsibilities including:
i) Characterizing human materials from our clinical studies.
ii) Indexing samples in the biobank and compiling information upon request.
iii) Managing administrative tasks in the laboratory.
Since the inflow of clinical samples varies over time, you will also be expected to take responsibility for additional tasks, such as regular updates and inventories of risk assessments and chemicals, respectively.
To qualify, the applicant should have at least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a biomedical discipline or equivalent. Applicants must have prior experience working in an experimental laboratory. Knowledge in handling and characterizing biological samples, such as clinical biopsy materials, as well as experience with inventory management and documentation, is essential. Proficiency in established wet lab techniques and familiarity with administrative systems, such as Karolinska Institutet’s chemical inventory system (KLARA), is considered advantageous.
Since the applicant will work closely with researchers from diverse backgrounds, proficiency in English (written and spoken) and excellent social skills are required for this position. The applicant should also be structured, possess excellent organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. It is expected that the candidate can prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently. Additionally, the applicant should be able to delegate tasks when necessary and ensure compliance with safety regulations. We put great emphasis on personal suitability.
