Your mission

We are seeking a skilled bioinformatician post-doctoral level to strengthen our research team. You should be proficient in analyzing and integrating spatial multi-omics dataset, genomics and epidemiological data. The primary focus of your role is to deepen our mechanistic understanding of ascending aortic aneurysm and heart valve disease and unravel the potential genetic contribution to disease development. You will work closely in a team with molecular biologists, laboratory technicians, clinicians, PhD-students and another bioinformatician. We expect you to work in a diligent and responsible way.

Your profile

Applicants should demonstrate expertise in programming languages such as R and Python, and have experience in working with computing clusters and genomic data. Applicant should also have a solid grasp of statistics.

You should be a team player, creative and goal-oriented with a scientific drive and proven scientific track record. You should also be able to work independently and take a strong lead in managing the progress of the project. Previous work on human genetics and knowledge in cardiovascular biology is meriting.

Good communication skills in English, spoken and written, are required. Personal suitability for the group will be a strong selection criterion.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of eleven divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the Division of Cardiology, Team Björck (https://staff.ki.se/people/hanna-bjorck
The research at the division of Cardiology ranges from basic research at molecular and cellular level to translational and clinical studies.

Specifically, our research team aims to reveal the disease mechanisms underlying ascending aortic aneurysmal disease and aortic valve disease. A unique in its kind clinical cohort and biobank has been built in close collaboration with the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, Karolinska University Hospital Solna, enablig patient-specific phenotyping and true translational research. Our research also involves molecular mechanisms of mitral valve disease and multiple valve disease. We integrate molecular cell biology, multiomic analysis, epidemiology, and genetics to unravel disease pathogenesis, with several national as well as international collaborators.
