Description of the subject area
The Division of Neuropediatrics at KBH provides an excellent environment for research, innovation, and academic development. The division’s research spans preclinical studies in well-equipped laboratories, motion analysis, clinical and translational research, health professions research, and registry-based studies. Research areas include movement, physical activity, participation, and health, as well as neuropediatrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics (children and adults). Through its multiple research groups, strong national and international collaborations, and close integration with clinical activities and education at KI, the division offers outstanding opportunities for innovative, interdisciplinary, and high-impact research. The division has a strong commitment to innovation and knowledge translation, creating opportunities to develop novel methods, technologies, and interventions that improve health and participation across the lifespan.
The physiotherapy discipline covers research on human movement, function, and physical activity in relation to health, pain, and disease across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on both pediatric and adult populations. A central part of the field is the development and implementation of methodologies for the assessment of movement patterns, joint loading, and muscular activity, as well as the interplay between these factors and pain, disease progression, and physical activity levels. This knowledge is of substantial importance for the selection and evaluation of both physiotherapeutic and medical interventions, and forms the scientific foundation for evidence-based clinical practice.
Physiotherapist are involved in rehabilitation, treatment, and evaluation, in close collaboration with other healthcare professions. The objective measurement methods of physiotherapy research, combined with clinical data and patient-reported outcomes, enable improved diagnostics, follow-up, and more equitable care. The research is broad in scope and includes translational and interprofessional research, clinical treatment studies, long-term follow-up, studies of patient experience, and epidemiological studies.
Your mission
Your role is to conduct high-quality, internationally competitive research with a focus on movement, function, and health from childhood through adulthood and into older age. The position includes responsibilities to:
- contribute to research and development within evidence-based physiotherapy, prevention and rehabilitation, and movement analysis;
- contribute to integrating research, care and education;
- contribute to the development of individualized interventions supported by objective measurement methods;
- plan, implement, and evaluate teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels within physiotherapy and movement analysis; according to KI’s pedagogical framework.yy77
- initiate and conduct research within relevant areas;
- supervise students and doctoral candidates; and
- participate in the development of educational programs and curricula.
The position also includes clinical work at the Movement Laboratory, Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital. The appointment is intended to be divided with 50 percent at Karolinska Institutet as Senior Lecturer and 50 percent at the Section for Paediatric Orthopaedics, Theme Children – Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific skills, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical skills; very good scientific skills and clinical skills.

Further eligibility requirements
It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
The employment will be combined with an employment as Specialist Physiotherapist in Orthopaedics/Paediatrics at the Section for Paediatric Orthopaedics, Medical Unit for Highly Specialized Paediatric Medicine and Surgery division, Theme Children, Karolinska University Hospital. You must therefore hold a Swedish physiotherapy license and a specialist certificate in physiotherapy within orthopaedics, neurology, paediatrics, or rheumatology, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing physiotherapy in Sweden.
Since the position includes clinical work, you must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).
Assessment criteria
The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualificationsas follows: scientific skills (2), pedagogical skills (3), leadership and collaborative skills (2), and clinical skills (2).

- Clinical and academic experience in movement analysis.
- Experience in establishing and further developing international collaborations with leading research enviroments.
