The Materials Science, Energy, and Nano-engineering (MSN) department at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University focuses on innovative research and education to address Moroccan and African challenges. Its work spans four key areas: energy transition, surface technology, polymers and composites, and sustainable materials. With over 70 researchers and PhD students, and strong national and international collaborations, MSN is a growing force in materials research. 

Job Description: 

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the purification of acidic and aqueous media, impurity separation, and materials characterization to join a cutting-edge research team. The project focuses on developing sustainable and optimized processes for the purification of industrial acidic and complex aqueous media through the selective removal and recovery of impurities to enable higher-purity acid products, impurity valorization, and more sustainable industrial processing. 

The successful candidate will work on: 

  • Developing and optimizing selective purification and impurity-recovery strategies for acidic and aqueous media, including selection of reagents, precipitation agents, functionalized materials, ion-exchange resins, staged separation, and selectivity and yield optimization in multi-impurity systems. 
  • Reactor design and scale-up from batch to prototype, including process integration and mass transfer optimization under corrosive conditions. 
  • Investigating material stability, impurity control, and competing-species effects in highly acidic and complex matrices. 
  • Comprehensive use of characterization and quantification tools, including XRD, FTIR, and ICP for phase identification and major- and trace-level impurity quantification in acid and aqueous feeds and purified products. 
  • Contributing to collaborative proposals and Preparation of high-impact publications. 

Position Requirements: 

  • PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on separation, purification, or resource recovery. 
  • Proven proficiency in advanced characterization of complex materials and multi-component solutions. 
  • Practical knowledge of structural and spectroscopic techniques for material and solution analysis (FTIR, XRD, SEM/EDS, ICP, HPLC). 
  • Insight into acid–base and solution equilibria, speciation, and selectivity in chemically complex media. 
  • Demonstrated research in the selective separation or recovery of metals and impurities from complex aqueous or acidic media. 
  • Practical background in reactor prototyping, scale-up, and process integration (batch-to-flow or modular configurations). 
  • Proven ability to translate process development into scalable, field-relevant solutions. 
  • Proven ability to perform multidisciplinary research and contribute to funded research programs. 
  • Good English communication skills, both verbal and written are important.
