The Department of Industrial Psychology at Stellenbosch University (SU) aspires to position its graduates in the market as professional and scientifically informed human resource practitioners and industrial psychologists. Applications are invited to become part of this dynamic team.

Duties:

For appointment at Professor/Associate Professor level: 

  • Providing academic and managerial leadership to the Department.
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the full spectrum of industrial psychology.
  • Postgraduate supervision and research.
  • Internship supervision.
  • Publishing research results in accredited journals.
  • Presenting papers at national and international conferences.
  • Participating in internal and external service activities, social impact programmes, and interventions appropriate to the academic rank. 

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level: 

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the field of Industrial Psychology and the Human Resource Management programme.
  • Postgraduate supervision and research.
  • Internship supervision.
  • Presenting research at conferences.
  • Publishing in accredited journals.
  • Rendering relevant services to the University and the community. 

For appointment at Lecturer level: 

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the field of Industrial Psychology and the Human Resource Management programme.
  • Postgraduate supervision and research.
  • Internship supervision.
  • Presenting research at conferences.
  • Publishing in accredited journals.
  • Rendering relevant services to the University and the community. 

Requirements: 

For appointment at Professor/Associate Professor level:

  • Doctoral degree in Industrial Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Professional registration with the Professional Board for Psychology as an industrial psychologist.
  • Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Proven evidence of completed research supervision of master’s and doctoral students relevant to the academic rank.
  • Recognised research outputs and scholarly impact commensurate with appointment as a Professor/Associate Professor.
  • Advanced statistical computing skills, such as R, SPSS, SAS, LISREL, and Mplus, as well as qualitative data analysis software such as ATLAS.ti and NVivo.
  • Demonstrated research leadership at national and international levels.
  • Seven to ten years’ teaching experience.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level: 

  • Doctorate in Industrial Psychology from an accredited institution and an appropriate research output record.
  • Professional registration as an industrial psychologist.
  • Practical and teaching experience with respect to Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management.
  • Two to six years’ relevant experience. 

For appointment at Lecturer level: 

  • Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology from an accredited institution and an appropriate research output record.
  • Professional registration as an industrial psychologist.
  • Practical and teaching experience with respect to Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management.
  • Two to six years’ relevant experience. 

Recommendations:

For appointment at Professor/Associate Professor level: 

  • Experience in a managerial and/or leadership role.
  • Proven record of teaching across the full spectrum of Research Methodology and Psychometrics.
  • Outstanding technical skills in statistical analysis packages.
  • Evidence of national and/or international recognition as a researcher through peer reviews or NRF rating.
  • National and international involvement in scientific networks to contribute towards knowledge production and dissemination. 

For appointment at Senior Lecturer/Lecturer level:

  • Evidence of published research and/or ongoing research activity;
  • Registration with the South African Board for People Practices;
  • Experience and expertise in Research methodology, Statistical programmes such as R, SPSS, JASP, Structural Equation Modelling and Psychometrics will be a strong advantage.
  • Appropriate work experience will be an advantage.
  • A Doctoral degree in Industrial Psychology will be a strong advantage. 

NB: Should no suitable candidates be found at Professor/Associate Professor levels, two appointments will be made on Lecturer and/or Senior Lecturer level.
