The Health Sciences unit at Tampere University’s Faculty of Social Sciences is a strong, multidisciplinary and internationally oriented health education and research unit. We offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate education in Health Sciences programs in both Finnish and English. Each year, nearly 100 master’s degree students and nearly 20 doctoral degree students graduate, and they go on to hold key expert and research positions in Finland and around the world.
Our research covers broad and socially significant thematic areas such as health behaviour and health promotion (particularly from the perspectives of children, young people, and families), population aging, disease prevention and control, as well as health policy and service systems. The Health Sciences unit is a World Health Organization collaborating centre, and our researchers are actively involved in several research centres at Tampere University.
Our teaching and research are based on a solid foundation of theoretical and methodological expertise in the fields of biostatistics, epidemiology, gerontology, global health, nursing science, social psychiatry, social and health policy, health sociology, and health economics. This diverse community of experts provides an excellent foundation for interdisciplinary research and scientifically ambitious career development.
We are currently seeking an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (levels 1–2) in Health Services Research for our School of Health Sciences.

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished researcher and teacher for the position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Health Services Research, who will conduct scientific research, contribute to the advancement of the field of Health Services Research as a whole and provide research-based teaching in accordance with their professional level in Finnish and/or English. In addition, the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor participates in societal engagement and international collaboration within their field. Successful performance of the duties requires ability of research in health care systems and multidisciplinary collaboration. In evaluating qualifications, consideration will also be given to the applicant’s alignment with the strategies of Tampere University, the faculty and the unit, as well as to their experience in leading scientific research or actively participating in a research group at a level that is in accordance with their career stage. Successful performance of the duties requires fluency in English.
Top applicants will also undergo an evaluation conducted by external experts, and they may be asked to present their research during the interview process.

The Faculty of Social Sciences provides natural opportunities for collaboration across the health sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The position will be filled 1 January 2027 or as mutually agreed.
The position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor is a five-year tenure-track position. Successful completion of this term leads to a permanent appointment. All new employees undergo a six-month probationary period.
Salary is based on the level of responsibility of the position and individual performance in accordance with the university’s salary system. The starting salary for a level 1 Assistant Professor is approximately €4,700–5,000 per month and for a level 2 Associate Professor €5,400–5,800 per month. The salary may also be higher depending on the background, experience, and performance of the person selected for the position.
The faculty will agree with the successful candidate on a start-up package designed to facilitate the launch of research, career development and international collaboration. The package may include financial support and/or expert assistance, for example, in preparing ERC applications and organising research exchanges. In addition, extensive training and mentoring programs are available to support academic development.
An Assistant Professor (level 1) has the opportunity to apply annually for seed funding for the early stages of independent research. An Associate Professor (level 2) has the opportunity to hire a doctoral researcher for their own research group for a maximum of four years.
