THz-Electronics: Project Assistant - PhD Student (all genders) 30 hours/week, initially for 1 year, extendable up to 3.5 years

The THz-Electronics Group of the Institute of Electrodynamics, Microwave and Circuit Engineering, TU Wien is offering a position (all genders) as project assistant (PhD student) initially for 1 year with a possible extension up to a maximum of 3.5 years of the project duration, the position is for 30 hours/week. Expected start: November, 2026. The focus of the THz-Electronics Group is the investigation of THz sources, detectors, and systems, with a special emphasis on the investigation of resonant-tunneling diodes (RTDs) and THz sources based on them. Tasks:

  • The position primarily focuses on research into THz RTD oscillators and detectors
  • Research in the field of THz Electronics
  • Writing and publishing scientific papers in top conferences and journals

Your profile:

  • MSc (or finished MSc at the time of the contract start) in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar discipline
  • A strong foundation in high-frequency electrical engineering or in the physics of electric or optoelectronic devices is required
  • Prior experience with semiconductor technology, nano/micro-fabrication, THz or high-frequency measurements and electromagnetic simulations is an important advantage
  • Strong motivation to complete PhD within the timeframe of the project
  • Team player and advanced problem-solving skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm in research
  • Knowledge of German is not required
