The Research Training Group 2606 “ProtPath” is a program funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) aiming at excellent training of PhD students that received their undergraduate training in the areas of Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Pharmacy, as well as Clinical Medicine. However, we also consider graduates from other study programs based on individual qualification. The research school takes an interdisciplinary approach to understand protease functions in cellular pathways through discovery and analysis of protease substrates. By doing so GRK 2606 will provide profound training in protease research ranging from basic science to clinical translation.
ProtPath is a doctoral training program of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg in association with the University Medical Center Freiburg and the Spemann Graduate School for Biology and Medicine Freiburg. Our students are based in institutes and departments of Freiburg University and its Medical Center.
Our interdisciplinary network and curriculum
ProtPath implements networking and scientific exchange as an integral part of the doctoral training. The qualification program provides specific training in proteolysis research methodology and a focus on rigid, robust, and reproducible conduct of scientific exploration. It also provides expert input to foster informed individual career decisions for the time after the doctoral degree has been obtained. ProtPath prepares equally for a career in academia, biotech companies or pharmaceutical industry.
